Greek Meatballs

1 pound ground beef -- 500g
1 onion -- grated
1 teaspoon garlic clove
2 slices bread -- crusts removed
1 egg -- lightly beaten
3 tablespoons fresh parsley -- minced
2 fresh mint -- chopped
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1 tablespoon dry red wine
2 tablespoons water

Soak bread slices in water, then squeezed dry. In a large bowl, combine meat with all ingredients, except water. Knead 2 minutes. Add water if necessary.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour. Pinch off small pieces and roll into balls. Dredge lightly in flour. Heat oil in a frying pan. Place meatballs in pan and fry until crisp, turning constantly. Remove. Drain.
