GREEN BEANS AU GRATIN

1 1/2 butter
2 cans green beans -- sliced(16 oz.)
6 slices bacon -- fried until crisp
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cups light cream
1/2 salt
1/8 pepper
1 dash nutmeg
3 eggs -- slightly beaten
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Wipe butter onto the bottom and sides of shallow baking dish. Drain beans and put into baking dish. Crumble fried bacon; sprinkle bacon and cheese over beans. Combine cream, salt, pepper, nutmeg and eggs; beat to blend thoroughly. Pour mixture over beans. Bake for about 25 minutes or until egg is set.
