OZ STYLE CORNED BEEF WITH CABBAGE

2 kg Corned Beef Brisket -- 4 lbs
low salt cured
3 cups cabbage
cut in 1"- 25mm pieces
1 onion -- thinly sliced
1/4 tsp bay leaves -- dried crumbled
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder

Place corned beef brisket in large Dutch oven or saucepan. Add enough water to cover meat. Cover and bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, about 2 hours. Skim fat from liquid in Dutch oven. Add vegetables and seasoning. Cover, bring to the boil. Reduce heat. Simmer 1 hour or until meat is tender. Remove meat to serving platter. Drain vegetables; serve with corned beef brisket.
